Trichocereus peruvianus (Peruvian Torch Cactus)

The Peruvian Torch Cactus is a close relative of San Pedro Cactus, Trichocereus pachanoi It is a columnar cactus found almost exclusively in Peru at altitudes of around 2,000 meters. Peruvian Torch is especially fast growing and hardy, often growing a foot or two each year and growing over 15-feet tall.

Peruvian Torch controversy

There is quite a bit of uncertainty out there about the exact taxonomic definition of Tricocereus peruvianus. The reasons are several and the story is long. But in a nutshell, the confusion stems largely, but not entirely, from Karel Knize, the infamous cactus seed exporter from Peru. The cactus that we have listed here for sale as T. peruvianus come from seed collected and labeled as such by KK.  The long and short of the story is that there have been so many different kinds of seeds imported to the US labeled as T Peruvianus over the years, that there is no exact definition, or description of what they are supposed to be. That all being said, there IS some growing trend toward narrowing the mutitudinous field down to at least a generalized standard. That cactus generally being described as bluish in color, with red/brown spines and usually fatter than a typical San Pedro Cactus and extremely fast growing. If those are the Peruvian Torch Cactus you are looking for, then you might take a look at our Trichocereus macrogonus cacti.  That definition pretty much fits the description of our macros right on the head.

We will continue to sell a few of our current T. peruvianus. But just the larger specimen sizes for their beauty. They are good looking Trichocereus! Fast growing, easy to care for, deep green with pale colored spines.

One seed pack is approximately 25 seeds in each pack.

WE CAN NOT SHIP CACTUS OUTSIDE THE U.S.

Sorry.
